EnviroStrat developed the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory for the Waikato Region. This applies the global community protocol methodology. Revisiting the inventory in 2020 provided a breakdown of emissions for each district within the Region, to inform both regional and local responses to climate change.
The inventories measure stationary energy (such as electricity, gas, fuels), transportation (on-road fuels), waste, industry and agriculture emissions, along with forestry sequestration. The latest report has a breakdown of the carbon footprint for each territorial authority in the Waikato region. The inventories compare the results with those previously, and shows how the region is tracking at a national level.
