EnviroStrat is pleased to announce it is the 49th member of the global 1000 Ocean Startups coalition.
The Coalition seeks to invest in and scale at least 1000 transformative startups by the end of the UN Ocean Decade – and to join, members must be active beyond the stage of ideas or concepts, with an innovative, scalable and “ocean positive” model.
EnviroStrat has been directly investing in, and leading, multiple ventures in New Zealand in recent years – which began with our Greenwave Aotearoa venture and our Kinanomics venture.
We’ve expanded to sustainable scallop aquaculture and the restoration of wild scallop populations, restoring reef ecosystems, and creating ‘nature credits’ to drive private finance into marine/reef restoration.
In 2024, EnviroStrat founder and CE Dr Nigel Bradly joined 100 other participants from 73 organisations alongside other coalition collaborators and experts in ocean and impact investment at the 1000 Ocean Startups coalition Annual Gathering in Amsterdam.
It was the largest assembly of ocean impact investors to date and there was a lot of interest in our ventures.
“1000 Ocean Startups unites critical work such as consistently measuring ocean impact from our collective investments, scaling capital-intensive technology, and creating and collaborating on funding structures and investment tailored to early stage ocean ventures,” says Dr Bradly.
“EnviroStrat’s announcement as members of this coalition is extremely rewarding because it’s clear that we need unified global action to secure the investment and attention our oceans deserve.”
He said he’s excited to collaborate and co-invest with other 1000 Ocean Startup members to enable sustainable ‘blue investments’ that restore and regenerate oceans. “It’s heartening to see and hear what others are doing globally and share our own commitment to invest and grow the blue economy.”
